We'd like to introduce you to local Jefferson Awards Nominee, Patrick Conrey of Clearwater. Mr. Conrey works for Clearwater Fire & Rescue as a driver/operator.
He was nominated by his colleague, Chris Maine, who has worked alongside him for three years and shared this with us:
Conrey has been instrumental in the annual Boot Drive to raise money for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Jerry's kids...As part of his training and preparation for
the promotion to lieutenant, he attends monthly officer training. One month, members from the Cincinnati Fire Department were guest speakers and spoke of a fire in which they lost firefighter Oscar Armstrong III. This fallen hero had left behind two children and his fiance was pregnant with their third child. Conrey was so moved by this story that he began to train Cincinnati's "Flying Pig Marathon". Conrey didn't just run in the
marathon, he ran in full firefighter gear to heightened the public's awareness that all
proceeds from the marathon benefitted the families of fallen firefighters. He ran with his helmet, air pack, fire coat and fire pants. While running the marathon, a fellow runner collapsed infront of him. That's when Conrey and two Cincinnati firefighters, also running the marathon, performed CPR on the victim and saved his life. Conrey is a great firefighter and a great human being.
