David Gilbert of Riverview

Last Update: 1/28 1:56 pm

We'd like to introduce you to local Jefferson Awards nominee, David Gilbert of Riverview.  David was nominated by his wife, Patricia, and she shared the following with us:

David and I took another route home from work and we spotted a woman in a hover
around guiding a shopping cart with a large stick in the middle of the highway stalled
out.  David immediately pulled over and guided her from the street.  He asked her,
where do you live and she point across the street.  He assisted her home.  David
then
asked where she got the hover-around from?  She replied, it was sitting near a dumpster.

David was at awe.  He then told the woman, I will come back tomorrow and try to repair it for you.  The elderly woman was grateful.  After returning to the car, he stated that cart is garbage.  I'm not going to be able to repair it.  So he tried to find out how much it cost.  David pulled into a Walgreens store on the way home.  The pharmacy said they were very expensive and then directed us to the Newspaper classified section.

We located a store in Clearwater and purchased a hover for $500 dollars.

We delivered it and the elderly woman and she was so grateful.  She asked us to pray before we left and we did.  David's parents are deceased.  He is 1 of 14 siblings.  Their youngest brother happened to be born 100% down syndrome, with other birth defects.  After his father passed the families were subpoena by Hillsborough County to court, to determine who was going to care for their brother.

Their handicap brother was placed in our home by the courts.
It has been 3-years since his brother has been in our home.  The first two
years, David had no help from his siblings.  This last year Earl, one of the brothers decided to help.
After a period of time, we noticed when Dwayne is visiting Earl, they had to walk
to McDonalds.  Since he decided to help, and they walk everywhere, David asked
me to consider giving Earl one of our trucks to prevent Dwayne from doing so much walking.
So, David gave Earl our 2003 Toyota Tacoma with no payments.  This is not the first and only vehicle David has given away.  There are so many wonderful things David has done, however you only asked for two.
