Delwn Ray Collins of Tampa

Last Update: 12/19/2008 5:31 pm

We'd like to introduce you to local Jefferson Awards Nominee,  Delwn Ray Collins
of Tampa.  Mr. Collins is employed by Tampa General Hospital.
He is known for his charitable efforts acting as "Santa" to underprivileged kids.
Ginger Goepper nominated Mr. Collins and shared the following with us:

I've known Delwn Ray Collins for years, as we both attend Bayshore Baptist
Church.  He is a very sweet person.  Time & time again, I have witnessed Delwn's
efforts to make needy kids feel special.  He dresses up as Santa Claus and spends
hundreds of dollars of his own meager earnings on gifts.

He wraps them all and then delivers them.  During the Olympics, Delwyn was the community representative selected to carry the Olympic torch through Tampa because he is uniquely qualified to represent the best humanity has to offer: generosity and humility all rolled into one.

Past Winners

Past winners of the national award include Cesar Chavez, Jimmy Carter, Walter Chronkite, General Colin Powell, Arthur Ashe, Paul Newman, Lance Armstrong among many others.

On the local level, Jefferson Awards recipients are ordinary people who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition or reward.
