TAMPA, FL -- What's scarier, Halloween or the swine flu? How about both?

The American Red Cross says with Halloween right around the corner and the H1N1 (swine) flu virus widespread across the U.S., parents should take precautions this holiday:

1. Keep sick kids home. Parents may have to negotiate the event and find another alternative.

2. Remind kids to keep their hands away from their eyes, nose and mouth to keep germs away. Carry Hand sanitizer making sure the gel gets into finger tips.

3. If you are giving out candy, hand it or scoop it out. Instead of a bowl, where many children will finger candy, consider handing out small, individually wrapped candy.

4. Throw away any unwrapped candy.
