TAMPA, FL -- In 2008, the Acai berry burst onto the health scene and launched a 15 million dollar industry. The internet is full of websites that sell acai-related products. But, Consumer Investigator Kerry Kavanaugh has learned that one company's site is giving its' customers more than they bargained for.
The company, Central Coast Nutraceuticals runs the site
acai-pure.com. ABC Action News has heard from customers, who say they ordered acai supplement diet pills through the site, after they were offered a free trial offer for the cost of shipping. But, the customers say, after the order was placed, they were not only charged for the free trial offer, they were also charged for additional products.
According the Better Business Bureau, thousands of people across the country have lodged complaints against this company. And the BBB has given the company an 'F' rating.
Florida's Attorney General is currently investigating the Central Coast Nutraceuticals after the office received 260 consumer complaints since May, 2008. Arizona's Attorney General filed a lawsuit against the company last December.
Central Coast Nutraceuticals is headquartered in Arizona. But, there is a distribution and fulfillment center in Largo, Florida.
Kavanaugh spoke to the attorney representing CCN and its 14 different websites, which market similar products.
