TAMPA, FL -- A local employment agency had to rush to find 180 office workers to start work on Monday afternoon.
Vaco, a national placement company with an office in Tampa, took applications until about 8 p.m. Sunday and then again Monday from 8 a.m. until noon.
If Linda Bowman looks tired, that's because she's the one in charge of hiring, and just found out Friday that she had to fill the positions.
"I said oh my gosh, this is awesome," Bowman said,"I never thought where am i going to get these people, how is this going to happen. I just knew this was going to happen."
The employer was kept confidential at their request, but the job requires people to analyze confidential documents. The positions were temporary jobs that were expected to last between 6-8 weeks, and paid $14.73 an hour.
Louis Rodriguez, who's been looking for work, got an early afternoon text message that made him smile for the first time in months.
"This actually came at a perfect time.", he said.
In Vaco's lobby, each candidate got paperwork, then sat in a crowded conference room where they waited for a background check and for an interview.
During his time in the tiny room, Rodriguez learned his luck was changing. He was hired.
He admits the hours are a little odd, but people like him, whose lives have been on hold, are rejoicing.
"It's a blessing, man, it really is."
Bowman said a second wave of jobs will likely need to be filled soon.
