Reported by: Tim Vetscher Email: tvetscher@abc15.com A new website allows users the opportunity to bring in thousands of dollars, and all you need is a little creativity.
Kickstarter.com helps people turn their dreams into reality by giving artists a way to fund their endeavors.
"If there's people out there willing to invest in small business, that's basically the American dream," said Jeff Farmer.
Farmer is currently unemployed but he does have a dream to use a rare rock found only in Arizona, New Mexico and California called fire agate.
"I really want to create art that has light sources behind it," said Farmer.
To get his project off the ground, Farmer figures he'll need about $10,000.
"My project is to make jewelry pieces with it, but I want to branch out into table tops," said Farmer.
Basically, if you have an idea that needs funding, Kickstarter.com gives you the platform to post your story using text, pictures and video.
If someone likes your concept, they can choose to back it by pledging their support with money.
"My girlfriend is an artist, you're always struggling paycheck to paycheck," said Bob Jacks of Mesa. "I think this is a grassroots way to approach the business side of it."
The person creating the project on Kickstarter.com sets a dollar amount they hope to raise and a time limit.
If the project meets it's goal, the donor's credit cards are charged and the money goes to the creator.
If it doesn't meet the set dollar amount, all pledges are canceled.
"I think people need a helping hand to get them going, so I would (help fund a project)," said Jose Jaramillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
As for Farmer, he hopes the website will kick start the process to finally bring his vision to life.
You do need to receive an invitation to post your idea to Kickstarter.com. Those invitations can come from a variety of places including
