I have 3 Subarus, and are still very strong. 1990 Legacy, 319000 miles. Bought it used and cheap, my second car. Repairs jump out about every 5 years. Last one was cv axle and a battery. Its due for another battery soon. Had a old Taurus before it. Taurus was good safe car, but when I tasted the reliability of Subarus, i am not buying anything else. No hondas, no toyotas or gm. 1998 Legacy, 178000 miles. Haven't had a repair in years. Last one was a starter, at around 100,000 miles. 2003 Outback, 80,000 miles. Just oil changes so far. I would also only buy Ford trucks, so they got it right there. Nowhere near as reliable as Subarus, but Subarus can't pull large trailers. Had to replace transmission on my F150 so far. Thats a major repair. Other than a few odd things on it, its been ok. I would also pick Subaru cars and Ford trucks. Subaru only sells like 200k cars a year, and yet these things are everywhere.

Have 178,000 miles on my slant 6 '72 Duster. Still going strong and gets great MPG. We have 4 Dusters and 2 Dodge Rams. Would NEVER buy a Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Lexus, Saab, VW, etc.

Sounds like someone really loves those foreign cars, huh? I was surprised to see they did include the Ford though. My husband had a 1990 Chevy Astro...he traded it in for a great Dodge Ram in 2004...only because the Astro wasn't able to pull the new, bigger boat. Otherwise he would have kept it. We have a 1998 Catera, bought her used in 2000, she's still going strong. Regular preventive maintenance is the name of the game. We'll continue to buy American, thank you very much.

No Mercedes diesel? Rubbish. More mercedes diesels have gone 1,000,000 miles, not more than any other car, but more than ALL other cars combined. Someone didn't do their homework.

What a testament to the to the Japanese propaganda campaign! What about all the JEEP Cherokees? I'm talking the original "suv", the plain, boxy XJ model(non Grand Cherokee type). Not to mention all the Dakota pickup trucks back 3 & 4 model versions. There are tons of these and other USA made pickups with 200k to 300k plus miles still rolling around the country. My son drives a 1995 Dakota with 150k , ready to run anther 150k. Let's give more credit where it belongs & where it all started. Thanks for listening, A former Detroit auto worker

What a waste of an article. "Seem" is the correct word here. No research. No facts. Just some guy saying that he thinks some of these cars have been around for awhile. WORTHLESS.

This article was a complete waste of time for someone looking for actual information. Lovely cocktail party script, but useless for fact of actual car longevity. This looks tailor made for local TV news scripts too actually, I'm looking forward to hearing this unsatisfying sensational fluff in that mock-surprise tone that makes TV reporters seem credible. Author, I'm glad you have a job that you can crank out this silly stuff and get paid for, ya got it made! My condolences to the readers. Dan in Louisville KY

Would like to see the research that was done to compile this list. Would like to know which "experts" were consulted to come to the conclusions given...

I can fully agree with # 1..I've been rocking a Subaru wagon since 2005; liked it so much I bought a second, and recommend them to everyone.... The one vehicle I was surprised to see that didn't make this list, was the Jeep Cherokee...it was the ultimate SUV.. had an indestructible inline 6 cylinder engine that was good for easily 200K, and a 4wd system that was built from over 50 years of experience in the real world, including battlefields in Europe; even the engineers at Chrysler couldn't screw it up..It had to wait until the Germans got a hold of it, and killed one of the best engines ever made. As much as I love my Subarus, I hope this is one model/ marque that makes a triumphant comeback, preferably in an unmolested state of design..
