I’m Consumer Reporter Kerry Kavanaugh. I joined the ABC Action News team in June, 2007.

This is by far the warmest place I’ve ever lived.

I was born and raised in Boston, MA and graduated from Boston College. Staying true to my roots I am an avid Boston sports fan!!!

Before coming to Tampa, I worked for the ABC affiliate in Bozeman, Montana. In Bozeman, I was a one-woman-band, shooting and editing all of my own stories.

During that time, I traveled to Germany as part of a Journalism fellowship. While in Germany I produced a series comparing the lives of Jews in modern day Germany to the lives of Native Americans in Montana.

After two years in the mountain west, I headed to the Midwest to report for WHO-TV in Des Moines, Iowa. While I was in Iowa, I produced an award winning series on immigration in Iowa. I traveled to Villachuato, Mexico to find workers deported after an immigration raid at a local meatpacking plant.  I speak Spanish and I think that really helped people in Mexico open up to the strange news crew in their town.

I spent two years in Iowa, and then I headed south to be the Consumer Reporter for ABC Action News.

As the Consumer Reporter, I’m always trying to find you the best deals, ways to save you money, and keep on top of the latest scams. I look forward to getting to know you all as I report around the Tampa Bay area.

If there’s ever a consumer story that you want me to take a closer look at, or a business that you want me to investigate, please feel free to send me an email anytime to kkavanaugh@abcactionnews.com.

On wanting to be a "Professional Traveler":
"If I wasn't a reporter, I'd be a professional traveler. I love getting out of my comfort zone and exploring another way of life. In a perfect world I would combine both of my passions and I'd be a traveling reporter!"
