Karen Castillo

Last Update: 7/20 11:35 am
Karen Castillo comes to us from New York City where she reported general assignment news for the CW11, including the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI's first trip to the U.S. She also contributed to the 2008 Presidential election, covering campaign events for Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain.

Before working in NYC, Karen worked in Orlando for five years where she won a 2006 Suncoast Emmy Award. The Education/School story titled "Bus Controversy" highlighted young children who were forced to walk to school after funding cuts.

Karen started her career at the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and 60 Minutes II in New York City. Her fluency in Spanish was a plus in translating live Spanish news into English during the coverage of the custody and immigration status of Elian Gonzalez.

Karen grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She earned degrees in Business Communications and Spanish and was president of her DeSales University graduating class. She and family now happily call Florida home.
