For the past 20 years, we've witnessed a tremendous growth in the Tampa Bay area. No longer are we a one-horse professional sports town. The Bucs have gone from oh-for-forever to Super Bowl champions. The Devil Rays have made baseball more than just a spring fling. And, of course, the Bolts proved hockey is chic, even south of the Mason-Dixon line.
Perhaps the most amazing sports story of our area is at USF. It's as if the university athletic programs seemingly overnight went from the SunBelt Conference to the Big East.

My career travels began in Des Moines, Iowa as a student at Drake University. For eight years, I spent time in the Hawkeye State experiencing the fervor and riches of college athletics.
One trip to Daytona Beach made me realize winters were for playing golf, not shoveling snow! Fortunately, WESH-TV in Orlando made me an offer in 1983 that I would have been nuts to refuse. So I traded snowshoes for flip-flops, moved from Orlando to Tampa, and have made this area home since 1986.
