John Sabol is the weekday Sports Reporter and the Weekend Sports and News Anchor.
John joined the ABC Action News Team in October 2013 from Charleston, WV. There, he served as the Sports Director at WOWK from 2011-2013. Prior to Charleston, John also served as the Sports Director for WVNS in Beckley, WV from 2009-2011, and was a Multimedia Reporter for the Akron Aeros (Cleveland Indians AA affiliate) in Akron, Ohio in 2009.
During his four years in West Virginia, John covered West Virginia University, Marshall University and Virginia Tech athletics including multiple bowl games. In addition, his assignments included covering high school sports, four Minor League Baseball teams, several NCAA Division II colleges, and multiple Greenbrier Classics (PGA Tournament).
His most memorable moments as a sport reporter occurred in the July 2010 Inaugural Greenbrier Classic where Stuart Appleby became the fifth golfer in history to shoot a 59 in an official PGA Tour event, and in January 2011, witnessing four-time World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield box at The Greenbrier.
John earned the 2013 West Virginia Broadcasters Association Award for the state's "Best Sportscast" for his anchoring on WOWK's Sports Zone. He is a graduate from Kent State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast News and a minor in Political Science. He is a native of Hudson, Ohio (near Cleveland). Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports including baseball, basketball and golf among others, participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and fishing,
